Top 10 Automobiles (Passenger Vehicle) Companies in India by market share are as follows

Maruti Suzuki ( 37% Market Share): Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL, formerly Maruti Udyog Limited) is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. Maruti Suzuki is a leading manufacturer of passenger vehicles in India. Lovingly referred to as the people’s car maker; over the past three decades Maruti Suzuki has changed the way people in India commute and travel.

Hyundai Motors India Limited (14.4% Market Share): Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company (HMC). HMIL is the largest passenger car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India. It currently markets eight passenger car models across segments — in the A2 segment it has the Eon, Santro, i10 and the i20, in the A3 segment the Accent and the Verna, in the A5 segment Sonata and in the SUV segment the Santa Fe.

Tata Motors(13.1% Market Share): Tata Motors Limited is India’s largest automobilecompany, with consolidated revenues of INR 1,65,654 crores (USD 32.5 billion) in 2011-12. It is the leader in commercial vehicles in each segment, and among the top three in passenger vehicles with winning products in the compact, midsize car and utility vehicle segments. It is the world’s fourth largest truck and bus manufacturer.

Ford (3.2% Market Share): Established in 1995, Ford India is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, a global automotive industry leader. Honda (2.9% Market Share): Honda Cars India Ltd., (HCIL) is a leading manufacturer of premium cars in India. Ltd., Japan.

Volkswagen (2.4% Market Share): With its headquarters in Pune, Maharashtra (India), the Volkswagen Group is represented by three brands in India: Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda. The Volkswagen Group is completing 10 years of its India journey which began with the entry of the Skoda brand in 2001, Audi brand and Volkswagen brand in 2007. The Volkswagen Polo, since its India launch, has seen four different engines – the 1.2-litre three-pot petrol and diesel, the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol (now discontinued), and the turbocharged 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol in the GT TSi. Today, VW’s introduced the fifth mill in the form of the 1.6-litre diesel engine in the GT TDI.

This is the same engine as the one seen on the Vento, a 1,598cc four-pot diesel which makes 103bhp and 250Nm of torque – which, rather interestingly, is only 4bhp off the Mercedes A-Class diesel’s output, while matching it on the torque front. There’s some food for thought, right there, eh TopGearheads?

Unlike the TSi-powered GT’s seven-speed DSG auto, the GT TDI gets a five-speed manual ‘box.

Available as a single fully-loaded variant, the GT TDI’s equipment list reads pretty much the same as that of the GT TSi – 15-inch ‘Estrada’ alloys, GT badging, ‘Milan’ fabric upholstery, auto climate control, double-DIN stereo with aux-in, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering-mounted controls, aluminium-finished pedals and rear parking sensors are standard.
